Saddlescombe Farm Heritage Open Day
Saddlescombe Farm, nr Poynings
As part of the Heritage Open Days enjoy free tours around this ancient downland farm, once home to the Knights Templar. Tours of the 17th century buildings, the surrounding downs and the walled garden. Tea and home-made cakes available from the Hiker’s Rest cafe.
£2 car parking or free if you come by bus, walk, cycle or horseback.

Big Beachwatch at Birling Gap
Birling Gap car park
Join our big beach watch in association with the Marine Conservation Society as a part of the adopt a beach scheme. Help with our beach clean, try some litter art and discover the wildlife secrets of the strandline.
Gloves and litter picking equipment will be provided. We suggest you bring shoes/boots, sunhat and sun-cream or wind proof and waterproof layers depending on the weather.

Community Barbecue and Local Food Fair
Devil’s Punch Bowl Cafe, London Road, Hindhead GU26 6AB
Bring your own food and drink along to the Punch Bowl. There will be a barbecue to cook on, cream teas and ice cream available from the café. You are welcome to bring your own produce, for example homemade cider and honey to promote local food and growing your own. There will be stalls run by local producers and the wardens will be on hand to talk about the property.

Autumn Photographic Workshop

Robert Louis Stevenson

Robert Louis Stevenson, known today primarily for Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Treasure Island and Kidnapped, has also been celebrated as both a traveller and a travel-writer. Dr RL Abrahamson, who has written and spoken extensively about Stevenson and has read Stevenson’s works from lecterns and on radio, will speak about Stevenson the traveller, bringing to life the comic, chaotic and always compassionate accounts Stevenson has given us of what it was like to travel both in poverty and in luxury

Kipling, His Life & Poetry

Spend an hour in the company of one of the nation’s favourite poets – Joseph Rudyard Kipling – as he tells you a little something of himself, interwoven with a selection of his poems, including ‘If’, ‘Gunga Din’, ‘Recessional’, ‘My Boy Jack’ and ‘Tommy’. Jonathan Jones brings Kipling to life in the very house where he lived, in what promises to be a dramatic and emotional insight into the life and work of the ‘Empire’s Poet Laureate’.

Lecture Lunch: A Lady Arising – Undressing the Tudor’s

See how women of the Tudor court dressed from the bottom up, through her toilette, her cosmetics, exquisite jewellery and all her fine state of ‘dress’. Learn how social rules and etiquette affected the way one dressed and conducted oneself at Henry VIII’s most famous court!
